Courses, Lectures & Workshops
Grandma says: Some people think it’s weird that a dog lover should want to go to a workshop to discuss canine health. I think it’s weird that a dog lover wouldn’t want to go on a workshop like this. Maybe it’s the same as people not wanting to read the instruction manual for a new electrical gizmo. Maybe they just want to turn their new iPod on and know how to work it automatically?
It’s simple to raise a dog, right? Feed it, water it, walk it … done. Except a dog isn’t an ‘it’. It’s not an electrical instrument that you can discard if it doesn’t work. A dog is a living, feeling, thinking, being. Sure, when a dog goes to the graveyard in the sky, you can always go out and buy another one. Except that you won’t want another one. You’ll want your best friend back, but you won’t be able to have him back. Most people have forgotten how to raise a healthy dog. We keep getting told, through expensive glossy advertising campaigns, that throwing some dry extruded kibble into a bowl is going to be enough – more than enough, or so they tell us. Some of us are lucky. Sometimes it works. But sometimes it doesn’t. When people gift themselves with the right to attend one of Grandma’s workshops, they come away full of enthusiasm and joy. They know how to do the best for their friends. They know how to raise a dog who rarely needs to see a vet because he’s so honest-to-goodness healthy. They come away empowered. How weird is that?
